Our Black Belts

We are incredibly fortunate as a club to have a number of enthusiastic higher grades and Black Belts, each possessing a wealth of knowledge and experience.

In addition to their dedication to teaching Tae Kwon Do, many of our Black Belts actively participate in our classes. Training alongside such talent is immensely beneficial for lower grades and beginners, as the senior grades lead by example and provide inspiration. They are always eager to demonstrate techniques and answer any questions

Meet our dedicated Black belts at CTF Taekwondo, who not only train rigorously but also inspire and instruct the next generation of martial artists. Their expertise and commitment to excellence embody the true spirit of Taekwondo

Kathyrn Jones | 2nd Dan Instructor

While watching her two boys participate in classes from the sidelines, Kathryn was inspired to begin her own taekwondo journey in 2011. Her passion for the beauty of this martial art, along with the support and friendship of CTF, quickly took hold. In 2016, she achieved her 1st Dan black belt. With a particular interest in the technical precision of forms and basics, she began teaching her own class while training for her 2nd Dan, which she achieved with merit in 2022.

Kathryn continues to teach, with the help of her fellow black belt Andrea Knight, on Saturday afternoons to a lively class of over 30 students. Her focus is on perfecting the stances and kicking positions of her students, instilling the discipline and beauty of taekwondo.

She remains actively involved in the club's training days and seminars, which have been led by inspirational martial artists such as Master Ooi and Chloe Bruce. Kathryn has been awarded Student of the Day at Gradings and also Adult Student of the Year in 2013, and she hopes to continue encouraging her students to achieve their full potential.

Becky Willoughby | 1st Dan Instructor

Becky joined the Crown Tae Kwon Do Federation (CTF) in 2002, coinciding with its rebranding. She quickly progressed and, in 2005, became the first black belt to complete her grading entirely under the Crown banner. Becky takes pride in having trained through the senior grades alongside some of the club's most talented black belts. One of her standout memories is from a Monday night when, as a red belt, she sparred with twelve black belts.

Since 2013, Becky instructs classes at Farringtons School. This role is crucial, as many Farringtons students transition to the main club classes, with three achieving black belt status. Becky is married to Master Mark, who often acknowledges the invaluable support and advice she provides.

Andrea Knight  | 1st Dan Instructor

Andrea began her Taekwondo journey in 2011, inspired by her two children who were already training at CTF. After dedicating seven years to rigorous training, attending three to four classes each week, she earned her Black Belt in 2018. In 2015, Andrea was honoured as CTF’s Adult Student of the Year.

Andrea instructs the Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon classes, where she shares her knowledge and passion for Taekwondo with students of all ages. Her teaching style is both encouraging and disciplined, helping students to develop their skills and confidence.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Andrea serves as the Club’s welfare officer. In this role, she ensures adherence to the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts, a set of guidelines designed to protect the well-being of all participants. She is responsible for addressing any safeguarding or welfare issues that arise throughout the year, providing a safe and supportive environment for everyone at the club.

Matt Holliday | 1st Dan Instructor

Matt began his Taekwondo journey in 2003 at the age of 7, training under his father, Master Stuart Holliday. At age 10, he achieved a double promotion during his 2006 grading, advancing from Yellow Belt Orange Tag to Orange Belt Green Tag, skipping the Orange Belt altogether. He was also awarded Student of the Day with distinction. In 2009, Matt competed in the National All Styles competition held in Sussex, participating in the weapons category with his Competition Bo Staff. He won gold in the competition, which remains one of his favourite Taekwondo memories.

After 15 years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, Matt earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in 2018. Along the way, he won a gold medal in the National All Styles weapons category (Bo Staff) in 2009 and was named CTF's Adult Student of the Year in 2017.

Now, Matt is a Black Belt instructor and instructs a Friday night class with around 35 students each week. Matt's specialties include his brick-chopping skills, teaching style, and sparring. He's great at breaking bricks with precision and strength. His teaching is clear and patient, making it easy for students to learn. In sparring, Matt is controlled and strategic, showing a strong grasp of martial arts techniques.

He also keeps CTF running smoothly as the Kit Manager, and handles all forms of social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and the Crown Taekwondo Federation website.

Asa Lawrence  | 1st Dan Instructor

Asa began training in Taekwondo in early 2002, attending sessions twice a week under the guidance of Master Stuart Holliday and 3rd Dan Alan Piers. His journey into Taekwondo was inspired by Master Stuart, whom he had worked with years prior.

In 2006, Asa, Lewis and Master Stuart attended the Shane Varney Clash of the Dragons national tournament in Leicester in which Asa achieved 2nd place in the forms category.

In 2015, Asa earned his black belt and, later that year, partnered with 1st Dan Black Belt brother Lewis Lawrence to open a Taekwondo class in Keston. By January 2016, he relocated to a larger training hall in West Wickham, where he continues to teach on a Thursday.

Over the years, Asa has participated in numerous seminars led by esteemed martial artists, including Master Chris, Master Ooi, Chloe Bruce and others.

Lewis Lawrence | 1st Dan Instructor

Lewis began practising Taekwondo in 2002 after Asa (His Brother) invited him to join. Growing up, Lewis loved watching Van Damme and Steven Seagal films, which inspired his interest in martial arts. Having done karate and other martial arts, it was perfect timing when Asa started training in Taekwondo and invited him to join.

Lewis trained under Master Stuart Holliday and Alan Piers. In 2006, Lewis, Asa and Master Stuart attended the Shane Varney Clash of the Dragons national tournament in Leicester in which Lewis achieved 3rd place in the forms category. He has fond memories of breaking a brick with a knife hand chop as a green belt and watching Master Stuart Holliday chopping two bricks. He also recalls stacking chairs high and using a turning kick to knock a bottle off.

Lewis attended various training days with Master Ool, Master Chris, Master Mark, and Master Stuart. In 2007, he earned his black belt under Master Pat, Master Stuart, and Master Mark. In 2015, Lewis and Asa started teaching a class at Keston, which grew rapidly with many new students joining in which they later moved to a better larger hall situated in West Wickham.

Shie Athanasiadis | 1st Dan Instructor

Shie joined CTF in 2016 and has been training with her son Youki since then. In 2022, she began instructing the Junior Taekwondo class at Farringtons School alongside Becky Willoughby. Under the guidance of Master Stuart Holliday and Master Mark Willoughby, she earned her 1st Dan black belt the following year in 2023.

With a background in performance, Shie appreciates the precision required in executing techniques and the artistry of physical expression that Tang Soo Do forms offer. She finds focus in martial arts training demands, and she loves how it allows her to express herself physically while maintaining a high level of technical accuracy.

Above all, Shie is most grateful for the warm-hearted support and guidance she continues to receive from all the black belt instructors at the club. Their encouragement and mentorship have been invaluable in her martial arts journey, helping her to grow both as a practitioner and as an instructor.

Tia Ritchie | 1st Dan Instructor

Tia began her Taekwondo journey in 2014 at age 5, training at Farringtons Schools After School Program where she reached the rank of green belt. After advancing to green belt, Tia expanded her training outside of school by attending the Monday Master class, and later increased her commitment to 3 sessions a week under the guidance of Master Stuart and Master Mark.

Her dedication and perseverance were recognised as she was awarded Junior Student of the Year in 2023 and Adult Student of the Year in 2024. In 2025, Tia earned her black belt at the age of 16 along with being the first female to successfully complete the brick tilt break.

Now, Tia shares her passion for Taekwondo by helping instruct on a Saturday morning class, passing on her skills and knowledge to the next generation of students.
